Our approach is to restrict ourselves to inefficient markets (delineated by geography or asset class or both) where it is possible to know more than others through sustained effort of analysis. We think comfort is expensive – and that discomfort is where exceptional returns are made. This is particularly true in markets where, by definition, they display illiquidity and occasional volatility. Our view is that unleveraged and expertly researched and executed investments offer the best route to high returns without commensurately high risk. The quid pro quo is that this takes staying power, resolve and patience.
We look to drive growth and profitability in each one of our businesses in our own specialised way. We do this by combining the following in each business we invest in: attracting world-class talent; developing operational and strategic partnerships; partnering with leading investors; and ensuring strategic and operational excellence.
